    Description

    Levitsky carte de visite from 1864 of France's last imperial family depicting Emperor Napoléon III (1808-1873), Empress Eugénie (1826-1920), and their only child and heir the Prince Imperial (1856-1879). Although the Second Empire would continue for another six years, this image represents the final sitting they gave as a family. There would be many more individual photo portraits taken of each member of the family and composites would be made to make it appear as if they had all been photographed together but this CDV documents their last session "en famille".
